The Quetta Gladiators will face the Qalandars
of Lahore in the fifth match of the Pakistan Super League to be held in Dubai.
Both teams will play their second match in the competition. This match will be
held in Dubai as previous matches and will be played on February 24th. The
match will start at 21:30 PST (16:00 GMT).
Both teams, Quetta and Lahore, are losing their
losses in their opening match and hope to reverse in this second match.
Unfortunately for one of these two teams, this will lead to another defeat and
make their qualifying task for the playoffs much more difficult.
What is very interesting to watch is that the
Qalandars would have a solid batting formation, but they were scored in their
opening match by the Sultans of Multan by 43 points - a huge margin in this
format of the game.
Disappointing Lahore captain Brendon McCullum
would be the fact that, despite the presence of bowlers like Raza Hasan,
Shaheen Afridi, Sunil Narine, Mustafizur Rahman and Yasir Shah, they watched
the Sultans at 179 in their 20 overs - a high score for a land in Dubai.
In response, they were eliminated for 136 with
captain McCullum being fired for a duck and only Fakhar Zaman scored a 49.
Quetta's story was something similar but at
least they managed to limit their opposition, Karachi Kings to 149/9 in their
20 overs. At one point, it seemed like the Kings would arrive at 160, but Shane
Watson grabbed a three-iron and did not allow them to even touch 150.
The Gladiators did not have the kind of stick
performance they needed on slow ground to overtake them. They fell to 15/3 and
never really recovered with only Umar Ami's 31 and Mohammad Nawaz's 30 guiding
them to any form of respectability.
Now in this match, the Qalandars are hoping
their hitters and bowlers are both fine, while the Gladiators hope to improve
their batting department.
